Who needs it

  • Needed by all foreign nationals entering Mexico by land for tourism, family visits, business or transit, even visa-exempt nationalities; it is in addition to any visa or electronic authorization needed.
  • Air and sea arrivals get their record through the airline or cruise line.
Entry points: Land border crossings only.

Validity: Valid for 6 months, single entry; the stay is up to 180 days, with the exact number written by the border officer on the stamped form.

Important to know

  • An unstamped card is not valid; entering without a stamp is treated as illegal entry and can lead to fines or detention at internal checkpoints.
  • Check the expiry date on the stamped form to avoid overstaying.
  • A passport card cannot be used for flights within Mexico or back home by air.
  • Denials are usually from incorrect passport or travel details.
