1Overview
The Israel ETA (ETA-IL) is an electronic travel authorisation for visa-exempt travellers. It is tied to the passport number and allows tourism, visiting family and friends, business, transit and short non-academic study.
It does not allow working or living in Israel, and approval does not guarantee entry; a border officer makes the final decision.
Who needs it
- Needed by citizens of visa-exempt countries (for example the US, UK, Canada), including for transit.
- Dual Israeli citizens must not apply and must enter and exit on their Israeli passport.
- Anyone who has worked in Israel in agriculture, construction or caregiving must apply for a consular tourist visa instead.
2Requirements
- PassportValid for at least 3 months beyond the arrival date
- Travel detailsIntended arrival date and length of stay
- Email addressA valid email address
Important to know
- Common denial causes are clerical errors such as wrong passport numbers; past overstays in Israel or security concerns are serious flags.
- Denied applicants can usually reapply with corrected information; in some cases a visitor visa from an embassy or consulate is needed.
- You cannot switch from an ETA to work or study status after arrival, and overstaying carries penalties.

- To stay beyond 90 days, visit a Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA) office in Israel, ideally at least two weeks before the 90 days end.
- A new passport, or a change of name, gender or citizenship, voids the ETA; a new application is then needed.
